The Benedict Year › Reading Backwards from the Pascha › The Spiral
Week 35 · 24–28 May 2027 · June
The Trinity
The Spiral: The same texts, and the child is not the same reader.
Session A · the reading
About 55 minutes. Open and read aloud before any framing: no introduction, no “today we’re looking at”. Scripture first, then the Father.
- Matthew 28:16–20, the Gospel of Trinity Sunday (23 May 2027); Genesis 1:26; John 1:1–3; Romans 8:14–17
Session B · the argument
About 35 minutes, on another day. Never both in one sitting.
Name it. The doctrine arrives out of texts already in the child, and a fight already personified: Athanasius, exiled five times for a sentence.
Books this week
Optional: one piece of media
Andrei Rublev (1966), the last hour, the casting of the bell, beside Rublev’s icon of the Trinity. Watched together, with nothing said about why it was chosen; how the list was made.
Doctrine met this way is remembered as the grammar of something loved.
