The King’s week

The King’s Week: The Church’s year ends on the feast of Christ the King, and the mosaic was always of a king.

Session A · the reading

About 55 minutes. Open and read aloud before any framing: no introduction, no “today we’re looking at”. Scripture first, then the Father.

  1. Matthew 25:31–46, the Gospel of Christ the King (22 November 2026)

Session B · the argument

About 35 minutes, on another day. Never both in one sitting.

Show. The mosaic image again, and say nothing about it. Then medieval stained glass that sets Isaac carrying the wood beside Christ carrying the Cross.

Unanswerable. They didn’t know it was him. Does it count?

The Tile Board

Add a card: The King on his throne, with the passage and today’s date. Pencil a line to another card only if the child sees one.

Books this week

Optional: one piece of media

Henry V (1989), Kenneth Branagh’s. Rated PG-13: watch it first. Watched together, with nothing said about why it was chosen; how the list was made.

The child’s November discovery, made in glass by people who could not read: they are rejoining a civilization.
