Michaelmas · Week 11

The King’s Week

The Church’s year ends on the feast of Christ the King, and the mosaic was always of a king.

The text at the centre: Matthew 25:31–46

Why it is here

A week between Genesis 22 and Advent. The Gospel of the feast is the king who says “you did it to me”. Show the mosaic image again and say nothing about it. This is also the week to show the medieval windows that set Isaac carrying the wood beside Christ carrying the Cross: the child’s own discovery, made in glass by people who could not read.

What is it for?

What did the king want the sheep to do? The text answers it.

Unanswerable

They didn’t know it was him. Does it count?
