The Benedict Year › Reading Backwards from the Pascha
Lent · Week 26
Holy Week and the Vigil
Stop teaching. Go to things.
Why it is here
Holy Thursday’s first reading is Exodus 12; Good Friday’s is Isaiah 53. The child will recognize both. Say nothing. Read the Exsultet at the table earlier in the week, because in the dark it goes past too fast. On Holy Saturday night, eat first and warn the child the Vigil runs two to three hours. Ring the parish in February and ask how many readings they will do; many cut to three or four. If one nearby does all seven, go there.
