The Benedict Year › Reading Backwards from the Pascha
Eastertide · Weeks 28–31
Cyril
Delivered in Easter week to the newly initiated, explaining what they had just undergone. Now you can talk.
Why it is here
One catechesis a week, beside Acts read straight through, as the Easter lectionary does. The third catechesis, on the chrism, is kept for the confirmation weeks. This is when the year’s hypothesis gets its whole name: the end was first. Read Ephesians 1:10, the plan to sum up all things in Christ.
What is it for?
The renunciation of Satan at the font. Cyril answers with Pharaoh: it is the crossing of the sea (Catechesis I).
