The Benedict Year › Reading Backwards from the Pascha › Unit 1 · Creation
Week 7 · 26–30 October 2026 · Michaelmas
Water that drowns and saves
Unit 1 · Creation: The Vigil opens with creation because that night is a new creation.
Session A · the reading
About 55 minutes. Open and read aloud before any framing: no introduction, no “today we’re looking at”. Scripture first, then the Father.
- Genesis 8:1–9:17; 1 Peter 3:18–22
- Ephrem, Hymns on Paradise, another hymn, aloud
Session B · the argument
About 35 minutes, on another day. Never both in one sitting.
What is it for?. The rainbow. The text answers (Genesis 9:15–16).
Take opposite sides. What’s the seventh day for? One argues it is for God, the other that it is for us.

The Tile Board
Add a card: Water that drowns and saves, with the passage and today’s date. Pencil a line to another card only if the child sees one.
Books this week
Optional: one piece of media
Moana (2016). Watched together, with nothing said about why it was chosen; how the list was made.
Warn the child, before Friday, that next week’s chapter is a terrible one.
