Wisdom on earth

Unit 6 · Wisdom: Wisdom appeared on earth and lived among men. That is the unit; don’t inflate it.

Session A · the reading

About 55 minutes. Open and read aloud before any framing: no introduction, no “today we’re looking at”. Scripture first, then the Father.

  1. Baruch 3:9–4:4; John 1:14

Session B · the argument

About 35 minutes, on another day. Never both in one sitting.

The four senses. The Latin couplet: Littera gesta docet, quid credas allegoria, moralis quid agas, quo tendas anagogia. The letter teaches what happened; allegory what to believe; the moral sense what to do; the anagogical sense where you are heading. The child has practised all four since September. The last one is the year’s own: where you are heading.

What is it for?. The law. Baruch answers (4:1).

The Tile Board

Add a card: Wisdom living among men, with the passage and today’s date. Pencil a line to another card only if the child sees one.

Books this week

Optional: one piece of media

The Karate Kid (1984). Watched together, with nothing said about why it was chosen; how the list was made.

Explain, calmly, why Baruch is in a Catholic Bible and not a Protestant one.
